After a conversation with a local resident about sporting facilities at one of the nearby academies, I have been speaking to the officers at Oldham Council about their use.
The resident was asking whether it was possible for the facilities to be used by local groups to keep up practices for kids.
The answer was that they could only be used by sporting groups who come under the relevant sporting body, so for example, a football team that comes under the FA.
There is also the consideration that Academy’s are not controlled by the local authority in the same way as many people remember schools being, so in this case, it would be the Academy itself which decided on safe use of the facilities, even beyond the national guidelines – if it was legal to let them be used, but they thought it was unsafe, they would be within their rights to restrict access.
If you have any questions about how the Coronavirus restrictions affect you, feel free to get in touch and ask for clarification. I have recently been helping local residents with issues around care homes, sporting facilities, and shopping. Residents of Grotton, Springhead and Lees can email me with their queries. (Just don’t expect me to explain anything Dominic Cummings says.)
